Assistant animator.

Just saw the two third years today and we sat down and looked and the storyboard, there original idea is to have a girl walking down an alley way, however the camera would be looking out on her point of view, we would see a reflection of her in a puddle or an sillhoette of her on the wall. she then comes out onto a long road and sees at the end of this road a tower with the sillohette of her father on the top of the tower, she then gets herself on a bike rides down the road falls off her bike and hits her head and then is push into a flashback of her at a park with her father and is being pushed on a swing but the father is in shadow, then she wakes up and starts riding on some roller blade and they break and she falls and gets pushed into another flashback of her father in the end this happens one last time in a car and when she wakes she finally gets to the tower and as she walks up the tower she gets older to find her father at the top and as she reaches out to him, he wisps away and she looks up to the sun to see him in the sun with her as a young child and that shows she has finally died and is with her father finally as he died when she was little. They presented this to there tutor, it was suggested it was too long and complicated and to cut down there story. The third years asked me and the other assistant lee what we could cut down, my suggestion was maybe to cut out the whole bike and rollerblades plus the intro just to have her having a car crash maybe into the tower and then have each flashback as one whole thing drifting in and out of scene's. Now it is her having a car crash her falling into her flashbacks the first scene in the park the next in a shop getting her wedding dress then her in the graveyard putting flowers on the gravestone of her dad to then have her wake up in the car and getting out in front of the tower looking up to see her father and in the background her body is in the car dead and the car recked and we realise she has died and now is a spirit and the endin is the same, this just cuts it down to basic's to make it easier to understand and be more realistic when it comes to makeing the animation. Our next job is to start making the buildings for them and the graveyard and park as they want that in 3D. I will be doing the grave yard and 3 buildings.

Frankenstoke

15th of February we had a group meeting with our producer Adrian Tooth, these are his notes from the meeting...

Sid is missing but seen his character and it looks good, a bit worried about the boot, but these probably won't be seen.
Like the concept art and there is nice design of the Lab and a storyboard with a good story happening and this looks very doable. Point of note rectangles for the storyboard.
Some nice concept designs of the Mellor building.

More characters need to be modelled. Use the story board and the concept designs to point out what needs to be modelled. Try and be a bit more creative with camera angles.
If you need permission to get on the mellor building roof, ask security and they will tell you if you need me to write a letter of approval.

However we have now changed the character design for Fritz as some team members had a dislike to the first design and we sat down and compromised on what we could do instead, agreed upon the fact we liked the body but both didn't like each others head designs so we looked at animals in Labs that are typically experimented on, we come up with the idea's of a rat and rabbit, we thought a rabbit would look more dynamic and appealing to the audience.

Already having finished the storyboard I now need to go back and redo it also do the turn around for the new character design which we have agreed upon for one of my team members to start modelling and start an animatic that will help us with the camera angles.

There has been a set back in meetings and we will be meeting up next week with our research project, still not had the storyboard sent to us ether.

Assistant Animator

I met with my third years on Wednesday 9th Feburary Richard and Dan to find out the details for this project and what they would like me to do, my task this week for them will be to have some research images for the short 3min animation they wish to create. I need to research buildings I could put into a city such as hospital's, banks etc... They said our next meeting they should have the storyboard made so we will have a better visual to go by and what they are expecting out of the project. We discussed the jobs that me and one other assitant might be doing however they desided that no job will be specific to us that we would delve into all of it as we are now part of a team. Which means that we can also ask to be taught how to do something. I'll know more of the project in out next meeting.

Frankenstoke

I have finsihed the character design of Fritz, in my opinion he looks a little like E.T. however he looks like a little helper for the Dr Frankenstien which was our aim. Dr Frankenstien is also drawn and modelled in Maya and my next move to do is to draw the monster and after Fritz is modelled, the Monster will be next.
The storyboard is done. I have decided that our first image to 'Frankenstoke' will be of Mellor building on Stoke campus, just a photograph with 'Frankenstoke' slapped across the image. I am now just inking out the storyboard to present to our producer Adrian Tooth. I am also starting to painting my sketches to see what colour we want the characters and the background.
We finally worked out how we can create lightning and particles in Maya so it will be easier that compositing them into After Effects. That will be more likly handed over to one of my group memeber as I am the Lead Concept artist. My primary jobs are to get the characters and storyboard done.
Our next meeting is on 14th monday feburary.

I have now got my new modules for this semester so look out for my new video's in May, of the rebirth of frankenstien 'FRANKENSTOKE' and the new challenge of 'KINDNESS'.
